Axel picked up a guitar for the first time at age twelve. His early musical influences were seventies-era British guitar heroes. Even today, his influences include "big tone" masters like Gary Moore, Jeff Beck or Brian May. Axel took to the stage at age thirteen and has been steadily building a career as a rock solo guitarist ever since. As a "Jugend Jazzt" prize winner, he studied music and architecture in Dortmund. This was followed by stints in well-known bands such as GRAVE DIGGER, DOMAIN, KINGDOM, ZÜNDER and XRIDE, with worldwide tours and periodic chart positions. Axel's charisma is attributable on the one hand to his virtuoso solo chops and his warm tone, and on the other to his appealing stage presence. The music press has heaped praise on Axel, calling him, for example "the fastest finger in Germany". Above and beyond his instrumental capabilities, Axel also plays a decisive role in the studio as a recording engineer and producer. For example, he produced the last five DOMAIN albums plus the current GRAVE DIGGER album "Clash of the Gods", and produces various artists in his pool of artists. In addition, he is also managing director of the music production companies Humbucker Music GmbH and Sovereign Events GmbH, has his own music publishing company, and runs the Meadow Studio recording studios.
Axel and Palmer are on exactly the same wavelength! Friendly, down-to-earth, but also a little bit crazy!
