With three platinum albums and one gold album under their belts, not to mention a Grammy for Best Metal Performance, Deftones are out in a league of their own. The music of this Californian cult band is often labelled "Alternative Metal", but their influences are far more wide-ranging than that and difficult to categorise easily, extending from classic US rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd to English new wave bands The Cure and Depeche Mode, right through to hip hop. Deftones simply have a strong sense of adventure, and enjoy combining traditional sounds, hardcore, dream pop and sparkling melodies to form their own individual style, which has been a big influence on bands like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. This spirit of musical openness comes out in the band's name, which is made up of the hip hop slang "def" and the suffix "tones", which recalls popular band names of the 50s, like The Monotones and The Cleftones.
Just like Deftones, Palmer combines tradition with its own ever-surprising ideas!
