Oddland are a Progressive Metal band from Turku, Finland. They began in 2002 as a rock-oriented band with leanings towards Grunge, but slowly drifted towards Metal. Demos were recorded in 2004 (''Against All Odds'') and 2007 (''Connection Critical Behind'') more or less for fun, but the band began to take a much more serious approach to their music in 2008 when vocalist/guitarist Sakari Ojanen's returned from a year-long hiatus in Spain. This resulted in the demo/promo ''Away From The Watching Eye'' in 2010. Oddland won the title Suomi Metal Star 2011, whose final was held at the Finnish Metal Expo. Oddland's debut album, ''The Treachery of Senses'', was released in April of 2012 through Century Media. The album has been getting nothing but praise, f.ex. it was described as "the best finnish progmetal album ever" by Inferno 04/2012 (biggest metal magazine in Finland). Dan Swanö mixed the album who commented "One of the best albums I have mixed. Ever! Incredible songs, stellar musicianship. I am proud to be a part of this amazing record!”. Oddland are Sakari Ojanen (Vocals, Guitars), Joni Palmroth (Bass), Ville Viitanen (Drums) Jussi Poikonen (Guitars). Oddland cite influences from a wide range of bands from the progressive metal but also alternative scene such as Katatonia, Opeth, Devin Townsend, Gojira, Strapping Young Lad, Pain Of Salvation, Primus, King Crimson, Tool, Meshuggah, Alice In Chains and Soundgarden.
"We rely completely on Palmer speaker simulation for our live sound. We don't use cabinets at all. The simulators provide an outstanding sound for Oddland with more control than you normally have. Our stage is silent so this also enables us to get really good in-ear-monitoring. Palmer is a big part of our live sound! Our bassist has also found great relief in the Trinity Instrument Selector. We have used the speaker simulation for studio recordings as well: "The Treachery of Senses" benefited a lot from PDI03 and we will most probably use Palmer products for the recordings of our next album as well!"
